Maker guide
Measuring your press & cutter
Set it up once, print perfectly every time. Your measurements belong to your equipment, so you check and confirm them yourself.
Four steps
- Open your studio settings and choose a size.
- Enter your supplier's measurements, or upload their template.
- Print the calibration sheet at 100% and check the 100mm ruler.
- Press one test magnet, then tick to confirm.
Questions
Which presses and cutters can I use?
Any photo-magnet or badge press — Sager, Enterprise Products, Mpro, Titan, British makes and custom steel dies. Enter your own measurements for each size.
What paper works best?
Most magnet makers find around 120gsm photo paper works best: rich colour, yet supple enough to wrap cleanly round the shell without cracking.
Why do I have to confirm measurements for every size, even 50mm squares?
Presses and cutter dies vary between suppliers. One 50mm square cutter might cut at 68mm, another at 71mm, and the wrap around the metal shell changes too. Relic suggests starting numbers, but only you can check them against your own equipment, so nothing prints until you confirm them.
What is the finished face?
The flat front of the magnet that people see, for example 50 × 50mm. Any wording or faces should sit comfortably inside it.
What is bleed?
A little extra photo past the face edge (usually 0.5–1mm) so a tiny shift in the press never shows a white line.
What is wrap?
The paper that folds round the edge and tucks under the shell. Badge-style magnets need wrap; flexible flat magnets usually use 0mm.
How do I check my numbers?
Download the A4 calibration sheet from your measurement settings, print at 100% (Actual size — never 'Fit to page'), and measure the 100mm ruler with a real ruler. If it measures 100mm, your printer is accurate. Then test cut one sheet and press it.
Can I use my supplier's template?
Yes. Upload the PDF or picture, mark the known distance, the face, the photo edge and the cut line. Relic works out the millimetres for you, and you then print a test and confirm.
What about big multi-piece cutters or flexible magnets?
Set your own face, bleed and wrap. Flexible magnets normally need 0mm wrap. For a fixed multi-piece or gang cutter, switch on its grid in your press settings and enter your own rows, columns, gaps between cut edges, and top and left sheet margins. Download the test sheet, print at 100% and check every outline against your cutter before confirming. Regular grids are supported; staggered or irregular layouts are not.
Do I have to do this every event?
No. Confirm each size once. If you change cutter or press, update and re-confirm. Past orders keep the measurements they were made with.
Privacy wording for your business
Adapt these clauses for your own customer privacy notice. Replace every bracketed item with your business information and keep only the services you offer. Your business is the seller and controller; Relic & Press is your software provider and processor.
This is a starting point, not a complete privacy notice or legal advice. Check your lawful bases, other providers, retention of non-photo records, overseas transfers and applicable countries’ laws. Do not extend the fixed photo deadlines or promise zero AI-provider retention. The 30-day complaint acknowledgement is a commitment you should be ready to honour.
Who we are and why we use your information
[Business legal/trading name] is responsible for the customer information we collect. Contact us at [privacy email] or [business postal address]. We use the information needed to take, personalise and fulfil your order, answer enquiries and handle any necessary reprint. Our lawful basis for the ordering customer’s information is taking steps at their request or performing our contract with them. For other people shown in a photo, we use [identify your applicable lawful basis and, if relevant, special-category condition]. Please only submit photos you have the right and authority to use, including appropriate parent or guardian permission where needed.
Photos and our software provider
We use Relic & Press to receive order photos, prepare designs and print layouts, and manage orders. We are responsible for your order; Relic & Press supplies the software and processes this information on our behalf. Customer photos are held in private, access-controlled storage, not as public shop images or a photo library for other makers. Relic & Press does not routinely browse customer photos. Limited authorised access may be needed for support we request, security or legal obligations. We do not sell your photos or publish them as advertising, samples or social media posts without separate written permission.
Live event photo deadlines
For live event orders, access to your photos ends at the earliest of 48 hours after collection, 24 hours after cancellation or 14 days after upload. The 14-day upload limit includes uncollected orders: waiting for collection or finishing an order never extends it. Originals and stored derivatives have the same deadline. The hourly cleanup removes expired files; permanent removal may follow the access deadline by up to one hour in normal operation. We also delete downloaded photo copies and print sheets within the same deadlines. Contact us at [privacy email] if you would like your photos deleted sooner; deletion before we finish may mean we cannot complete or reprint the order.
Postal photo deadlines
For postal orders, access to your photos ends no later than 14 days after upload, or 24 hours after cancellation if earlier. Posting does not restart the 14-day clock. Originals and stored derivatives have the same deadline. The hourly cleanup removes expired files; permanent removal may follow the access deadline by up to one hour in normal operation. We also delete downloaded photo copies and print sheets within the same deadlines. Contact us at [privacy email] to request earlier deletion; this may affect our ability to finish or reprint your order.
Optional AI illustrations
If we offer AI illustrations, they are optional. Only when you choose a style and tick the permission box is a resized copy of your selected photo, with the style and backdrop instructions, sent through Lovable’s AI service to an OpenAI image model. The generation request does not include your postal address, email, payment details or our other order records. You can review the result and choose whether to use it; it is saved as an order photo only if you proceed with the order. You can decline AI and use your original photo instead. Device-based black-and-white, mono, sepia and faded-film filters do not send photos to an AI service. Illustrations may change details and are not used for facial recognition, identification or decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Relic & Press does not train its own AI on customer photos. OpenAI states that API data is not used for model training by default unless the account holder opts into data sharing; default abuse-monitoring logs may contain submitted content and be kept for up to 30 days, with legal or safety exceptions. Those provider records have a separate retention arrangement from our order photos. You may withdraw permission for future AI processing by contacting us at [privacy email]; this does not undo processing already carried out. Provider details: https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/your-data and https://lovable.dev/privacy.
Payments, order updates and marketing
Where you pay online, Stripe processes your card payment on our connected Stripe account. We and Relic & Press receive the order’s payment status and transaction references, not your full card number. Stripe also uses information for its own payment-security and legal responsibilities: https://stripe.com/privacy. We use contact details you provide to answer your enquiry or communicate about your order or booking. Placing an order, uploading a photo or giving an email address for order updates does not itself subscribe you to marketing. [If you offer marketing, explain your separate choice, how consent is recorded and how to unsubscribe.]
Other records, providers and overseas processing
Photo deadlines are separate from our non-photo order and business records. We keep [identify records] for [state your retention periods or clear criteria] for fulfilment, enquiries and applicable accounting or legal duties. We share only information needed with [name your delivery, email and accounting providers, their purposes and privacy links]. Relic & Press uses Lovable and its managed infrastructure for hosting and storage, and OpenAI only for optional AI requests. Some providers may process information outside the UK. [Describe your applicable transfer arrangements and how customers can obtain information about the safeguards; do not assume AI permission is a transfer safeguard.]
Customer rights and complaints
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal information, object to its use, or withdraw consent where we rely on it. Some rights have exceptions, including legal record-keeping duties. Contact us at [privacy email] or [business postal address]. We may need to confirm your identity and normally respond within one calendar month, subject to lawful clarification and extension rules. We will acknowledge privacy complaints within 30 days, investigate without undue delay and keep you informed. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ without contacting us first. [Adapt regulator and rights information if other countries’ laws apply.]
